I maintain a studio of 6 to 10 bass students that I teach at my home near St. Paul, Minnesota. Lessons are either 30, 45 or 60 minutes in length, depending on the developmental level of the student. Students are expected to practice for a daily mininum equal to number of minutes of their weekly lesson.
Lesson
Material
1) Technique work - exercises, scales and etudes.
2) Solo Repertoire - from 1 to 3 solos, depending
on the level of the student.
3) Orchestral Studies - all students are also encouraged to bring music from
ensembles they are playing with to their lessons. Advanced
students also work on standard orchestral repertoire.
Studio
Recitals
Recitals take place usually twice a year in January and May. All students are
required to perform with an accompanist if applicable. I provide an accompanist
for a fee, but students can provide their own. Venues for studio recitals have
included Hamline's Sundin Recital Hall, a local church and a local school.
